An informal Malayalee community had been in existence in Brisbane for many years, before the Malayalee Association of Queensland (MAQ) was formally incorporated in March 1998. The objectives of  MAQ are to preserve the language and cultural values and friendship among the Malayalees, as well as other communities in Queensland. This is an association that  gives them reason to be proud of their heritage while continuing to be relevant to their changing aspirations.
